Enphase App: home energy use matches solar production (CT meter issues)

If the Enphase app shows home consumption following solar production almost exactly, negative usage, or unexpected import and export numbers, the consumption metering may need review. These readings do not automatically mean your home actually used that amount of electricity.

Why this can happen

  • Consumption monitoring is not installed or enabled: Some systems only measure solar production and cannot show whole-home usage.
  • Current transformer (CT) setup: CT sensors measure current on electrical conductors. Incorrect orientation, phase assignment, placement, or metering configuration can produce misleading readings.
  • Incomplete coverage: Some circuits or separate electrical panels may not be included in the consumption measurement.
  • Different dates or missing reports: The utility bill and app may cover different periods, and monitoring gaps can affect comparisons.

What you can check safely

  1. Compare the same date range in the app and utility account. Remember that the utility measures grid imports and exports, not all the solar your home uses directly.
  2. Review consumption after sunset. If home usage stays at zero while normal appliances are running, capture a screenshot.
  3. Record whether the issue began at installation or after recent electrical work, and whether consumption appears to mirror the solar curve.

Do not open the electrical panel, move CT clamps, or change installer metering settings. A qualified technician must check sensor placement and configuration. Call or text us at 806-454-7873 with screenshots and the relevant utility readings.
